"And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord as in a mirror, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, which is from the Lord, who is the Spirit." (2 Corinthians 3:18 NIV)

God gave us His Word so we could see ourselves as He sees us, understand situations from His viewpoint, and live out His perfect plan. God's Word reveals His image and opinion of you, which is the image and opinion He desires you to have of yourself.

As you delve into the Word and discover your true image and identity, hold onto that vision; don't lose sight of who you are. James 1:23-24 states, "For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks at his own face in a mirror. He sees himself, then goes away and immediately forgets what he looked like."

Pay close attention to the emphasised part. It doesn't say that someone who ignores the Word forgets "what they looked like." Instead, it says they forget "the kind" or "the type" of person they saw.

God's Word reveals the "type" or "species" of person you are. This is remarkable. For instance, 2 Peter 1:4, through the mirror of the Word, shows that you share in the divine nature, you are a partaker of God's very essence.

In Ephesians 1:22, the mirror shows you're seated with Christ, with everything under your authority. You have dominion over all things. You triumph over Satan, sickness, failure, and death. Hallelujah! This is who you are according to God's Word; live this truth. Praise God!

 Reflection:

This passage highlights the importance of not just hearing God's Word, but truly internalizing and living it. It's easy to read scripture and feel inspired, but then quickly fall back into old patterns of thinking and behavior.

Self-Image: How often do you consciously remind yourself of your identity as a child of God, a partaker of the divine nature? Do you allow external circumstances or negative self-talk to define you more than God's Word?

Action and Application: Are there specific areas in your life where you're struggling to "do" the Word? What practical steps can you take to apply the truths you've learned to your daily life?

The Mirror of the Word: Consider how you engage with scripture. Is it a quick glance, or a deep contemplation? How can you cultivate a habit of truly "beholding" the glory of the Lord in the Word, allowing it to transform you?

Dominion and Authority: Do you truly believe that you have dominion over Satan, sickness, failure, and death? How can you exercise this authority in your everyday life, trusting in God's promises?

By consistently reflecting on these questions and actively applying God's Word, we can avoid forgetting "the kind" of person we are and live in the fullness of our God-given identity.
